Dorothy Ann Dale age 71, died March 24, 2015. She was born April 26, 1943 in Delevan, NY to Vernon Lee and Rita Justine (Allen) Warren. Dorothy lived for many years in Ontario, then moved to and spent many years in Rochester, MN and, most recently, East Lansing was her home. She attended nursing school at St. Joseph's hospital in London, Ontario, and was in the 1964 graduating class. She continued her education and received her Master's Degree in rehabilitation and worked in that field until her retirement in December 2009. Dorothy's initial nursing experience...

Dorothy Ann Dale age 71, died March 24, 2015. She was born April 26, 1943 in Delevan, NY to Vernon Lee and Rita Justine (Allen) Warren. Dorothy lived for many years in Ontario, then moved to and spent many years in Rochester, MN and, most recently, East Lansing was her home. She attended nursing school at St. Joseph's hospital in London, Ontario, and was in the 1964 graduating class. She continued her education and received her Master's Degree in rehabilitation and worked in that field until her retirement in December 2009. Dorothy's initial nursing experience was at St. Joseph's Hospital in London, Ontario. She had a career in nursing that spanned many years and many specialties that led to roles such as Director of Patient Education at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN; then starting her own business, Wellness Awareness, in Rochester, MN to aid people in their recovery from serious injury or illness.
Dorothy started out as a volunteer with the American Cancer Society in Rochester, MN. Her association began in 1989 as the Chair of Public Education for Olmsted County. She also served as State Chair of Public Education and also as President of the American Cancer Society in Olmsted County. In addition, Dorothy served as President of Olmsted County American Cancer Society Board from 1991-1993 and 1994-1995. She took on the goal of creating a Hope Lodge in Rochester, MN which offers cancer patients and their family a home away from home while receiving treatment. Only several existed in the US at the time. After tremendous planning, the goal of $2.5 million was reached in December 1998. Hope Lodge of Rochester began to serve patients in March 1999. Dorothy received the Hope Lodge Volunteer of the Year Award. Dorothy was a lifelong member of church choirs. She enjoyed singing in the church choir(s) and had a beautiful voice. She enjoyed art and did paintings and drawings at many points in her life. Dorothy was an exercise enthusiast and enjoyed working out and leading a healthy lifestyle. Dorothy and her husband Allan travelled to many parts of the world and enjoyed experiencing different cultures.The most important things in her life were her family, her faith, and serving others. Dorothy cherished time with her family, 5 children and 7 grandchildren. She was a devoted member of the Catholic faith her entire life. She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, William John Grace (1964), and second husband, Allan John David Dale (1984).Surviving are her children Robert W. (Carolyn) Grace, London, Ontario; Michael J. Grace, San Francisco, CA; Gina Marie (Jeff) Brick, East Lansing, MI; David J. Dale, Baltimore, MD; Scott M. Dale (Andy), Flagstaff, AZ; 7 grandchildren, Kevin Grace, Mark Grace, Leah Grace, Ryan Brick, Matthew Brick, Tyler Brick, Elizabeth Dale-Rusk; 2 sisters, Donna Marie Blythe and Rosemarie Eleanor Allen; 2 brothers, Vernon Lee (Sharon) Warren, Jr., Thomas Stanley (Fran) Allen; and many nieces and nephews.There will be a Funeral Mass 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 27, 2015 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 955 Alton Road, East Lansing, MI. The family will receive friends Thursday from 5-8 p.m. at the Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 1730 E. Grand River Avenue, East Lansing, MI with a Scripture Service at 7:30 p.m. The family will also receive friends Friday at the church one hour prior to the service.
