Douglas Dwight Sharp
Passed away on April 29, 2017 at the age of 71. Doug obtained a Master's Degree in Botany and Plant Pathology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and worked toward a Ph.D. in Science Education at the University of Michigan. He was a retired science teacher with the Detroit Public School system. He loved all things science and could always be counted on to help solve that tricky science homework question. He was passionate about new learning, old movies, fly fishing the Manistee River near Frederic, MI, solving all the questions on Jeopardy, stamp collecting, politics, and attending his grandkids sporting events.
Heart research, innovations and good medical care kept him alive to see his grandkids grow, and for that we are grateful.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William I. Sharp, and Clarissa Belle (Sutton) Sharp Bloss and his brother, William I. Sharp, Jr.
He is survived by his daughter, Brooke (Jeff) Frommeyer; former spouse, Joye Sharp; grandchildren, Ali and Jack; sister, Lynn Schrader; sister-in-law, Joanne Finnegan and many special cousins, nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, May 3, 2017, at St John Church and Student Center, 327 MAC, East Lansing, MI. with visitation one hour prior.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Douglas to the American Heart Association, Memorials and Tributes Lockbox, 3816 Paysphere Circle, Chicago, IL 60674.
The family is being served by Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, East Chapel. On line condolences may be made at
