Richard Gilpin Winter of Lansing passed on June 11, 2017 in Grand Ledge. Dick was born in East Lansing on January 14, 1930, the second son of Orrin and Ethel Winter. Richard retired from the State of Michigan Department of Mental Health in 1995. Prior to that he worked at Sparrow Hospital Department of Billing and Collections.
Dick's hobbies included following the MSU Spartans and Detroit Tigers, playing ping-pong, reading, running, and keeping track of his running and walking miles later in life. With the help of friends and his sons he built the family...

Richard Gilpin Winter of Lansing passed on June 11, 2017 in Grand Ledge. Dick was born in East Lansing on January 14, 1930, the second son of Orrin and Ethel Winter. Richard retired from the State of Michigan Department of Mental Health in 1995. Prior to that he worked at Sparrow Hospital Department of Billing and Collections.
Dick's hobbies included following the MSU Spartans and Detroit Tigers, playing ping-pong, reading, running, and keeping track of his running and walking miles later in life. With the help of friends and his sons he built the family cottage on Lake Michigan's Cathead Bay. Many weekends and summer days were spent there enjoying family, the beach, campfires, and board and card games in the evening.
Richard married Norma Jean on June 22, 1980. Faith and trust were important values in their thirty-eight year marriage. They enjoyed spending time at the cottage and also at their winter home in Ruskin, Florida.
He is survived by his loving wife, Norma, his children, Kenneth Winter, and Susan (Kevin) Koch, three stepchildren, Larry Franks, Laureen (Dan) Tunningley and David (Kathy) Franks; his grandchildren, Josh (Amanda) Winter, Luke Winter, Michael Winter, Kaitlin (Justin) Wojciak, Jacob Franks, David Franks, Daniel Tunningley, Sarah Huffine, Alexa Stahl, Kaylee Seager, Monica Franks, Bailey Franks and 13 great-grandchildren.
Dick is preceded in death by his parents, Orrin and Ethel Winter, his brother, Gerald Winter, and his son, Robert Winter.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, June 15, 1 p.m., Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 1730 East Grand River Avenue, East Lansing with Pastor Ellen Zienert officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will follow the service at Evergreen Cemetery, Lansing.
A luncheon will be held at First United Methodist Church, 3827 Delta River Drive, Lansing.
