Roberta Elaine Jacobowitz was born June 30, 1944 in Princeton, NJ, the daughter of Dr. Ransom and Marian Whitney, and passed away September 7, 2016 at the age of 72. She taught middle school and high school sciences for 38 years in Ashland, OH, Coral Gables, FL and Lansing, MI. She also authored two books: Glacial Remains and Move On-A Climate Change Adventure. After retirement, Roberta continued to educate other teachers and volunteered as a docent at Potter Park Zoo. Roberta Elaine Jacobowitz was born June 30, 1944 in Princeton, NJ, the daughter of Dr. Ransom and Marian Whitney, and passed away September 7, 2016 at the age of 72. She taught middle school and high school sciences for 38 years in Ashland, OH, Coral Gables, FL and Lansing, MI. She also authored two books: Glacial Remains and Move On-A Climate Change Adventure. After retirement, Roberta continued to educate other teachers and volunteered as a docent at Potter Park Zoo. She was an active "Simulated Patient" at Michigan State University, helping to educate future doctors, veterinarians, and nurses. Roberta loved reading, writing, attending musicals at Wharton Center, gardening, animals, science, researching genealogy, and inspiring a passion of learning in others. She graduated from Worthington High School in 1961 and studied biology at Oberlin College graduating in 1965. Roberta was a proud member of the DAR, Michigan Science Teachers Association, MSU's Landon Society, President's Club of MSU, and served in several officer positions of the Williamston Garden Club. Roberta was preceded in death by her parents and parents-in-law, Dr. John and Elizabeth Jacobowitz. Surviving are her husband of 47 years, John "Jack" Jacobowitz; daughters, Jennifer (Mark) Campo and Elizabeth Jacobowitz; granddaughter, Lauren Campo; brothers, Ken Whitney and Ron (Joan) Whitney; sister, Marilyn Bos; stepmother-in-law, brothers-in-law, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Home, 1730 E. Grand River Ave., East Lansing. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the chapel. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in remembrance of Roberta Jacobowitz to Potter Park Zoological Society, Education Fund, Attn: Amy Morris, 1301 S.
